Piles, also known as hemorrhoids, are swollen veins in and around the anal region. They develop due to increased pressure in the rectal veins and can cause discomfort, bleeding, prolapse, and swelling. They are classified as internal or external based on their location.
Types
Internal Piles
Inside the anal canal, not visible. Classified into Grade 1–4 by severity of prolapse. Painless bleeding is the most common presenting symptom.
External Piles
Around the anal verge (outside the anus). Causes visible swelling, irritation, itching, and pain especially during sitting or bowel movements.
